Pray Together

Crossroads offers periodic prayer gatherings as a way to practice prayer in community. If you would like to know more, contact Griffith Brown, our prayer team leader.

You can also attend our quarterly Transforming Retreats at Crossroads (CRTR) to learn about different ways to pray and take time to practice prayer.

On Sunday mornings we offer several ways to pray together:

  • Candle Wall: Pray as you light a candle on our candle walls next to the platform during service.
  • Prayer Board: Write your prayer requests on the whiteboard in the Auditorium wall underneath the praying hands painting. Join us in praying for the requests on the board.
  • Brochure: Prayer brochures are available on the Communion elements table in the back of the auditorium. Several written prayers are there for you to use.
  • Text prayer requests: Text your prayer requests to our pastoral prayer team at 94000.

Prayers used at Crossroads

We use these prayers often in our Sunday gatherings. They are written below for you to pray on your own at any time.

THE LORD’S PRAYER
(The prayer as it occurs in Matthew 6:9-13)
Our Father in heaven, hollowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our doily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also hove forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the p

SERENITY PRAYER
God grant me the serenity to accept
the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
(Although known most widely in its abbreviated form above,
the entire prayer reads as follows .. .)
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,
not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.

PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
If you are ready to ask Jesus to become the Lord of your life here is a suggested prayer. This is not a ritual based on specific words, but rather a prayerful guideline for your sincere step of faith.
Father, I know that I have broken Your laws and  my sins have separated me from You.
I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward You. Please forgive me, and help me turn away from sin.
I believe that Your Son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward.
Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life.
In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Congratulations!
Welcome to the family of God!

THE WELCOMING PRAYER
By Father Thomas Keating
Welcome, welcome, welcome. I welcome everything that comes to me today because I know it’s for my healing. I welcome all thoughts, feelings, emotions, persons, situations, and conditions. I let go of my desire for power and control. I let go of my desire for affection, esteem, approval and pleasure.
I let go of my desire for survival and security.
I let go of my desire to change any situation, condition, person or myself.
I open to the love and presence of God and God’s action within. Amen.

MAKE ME AN INSTRUMENT OF YOUR PEACE
By Francis of Asissi
Lord, make me an instrument of Your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy.
O, Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; it is in dying that we are born again to eternal life.

CHRIST HAS NO BODY
By Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)
Christ has no body but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes with which He looks Compassion on this world,
Yours are the feet with which He walks to do good, Yours are the hands,
with which He blesses all the world.
Yours are the hands,
yours are the feet,
Yours are the eyes,
you are His body.
Christ has no body now but yours,
No hands, no feet on earth but yours,
Yours are the eyes
with which He looks
compassion on this world.
Christ has no body
now on earth but yours.

JESUS’ PRAYER FOR US
Jesus in John 17:2G-26
My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one—I in them and you in me—so that they may be brought to complete unity. Then the world will know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.

PRAYER OF QUIET TRUST
(The prayer taken from Psalm 131.)
0 Lord, my heart is not lifted up; my eyes ore not raised too high; I do not occupy myself with things too great and too marvelous for me.
But I have calmed and quieted my soul, like a weaned child with its mother; my soul is like the weaned child that is with me.
Hope in the Lord from this time on and forevermore.

PRAYER OF BARTIMEAUS
or THE JESUS PRAYER
O Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God,
have mercy on me, a sinner.

PRAYER OF INDIFFERENCE
Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me according to your word. God’s will nothing more, nothing less, nothing else.
