Sacraments & Sacred Practices

We seek to love God, neighbor, and self through whole-life spiritual practices.

Sacred Practices

Formation of the soul through a practice-based faith

At Crossroads, we embrace both community and solitude, contemplation and action, silence and word, giving, serving, and receiving—all to know Christ and make Christ known. These practices shape us and open us to behold God in new ways and invite us into continual transformation. (Luke 10:27)

Weekly Rhythm

Prayer
Prayer changes things. From opening words and Call to Worship, to blessing at the end of our Sunday service, we integrate and orient worship around prayer and believe in the goodness of God's availability in word and deed.

We hope you find a way to pray with us:

Candle Wall: Pray as you light a candle on our candle walls next to the platform during service.
Prayers of the People: Write your prayer requests on a sticky note and place it on the podium to have it read aloud during the service. If you do not want it to be read out loud, place it on the table underneath the praying hands painting and pastoral staff will pray with you throughout the week/

Any pastor would be glad to help you or pray with you as well!

Several written prayers are available for your use in a brochure on the Communion elements table in the back of the auditorium.
Communion
We take Communion each week as a way to remember Jesus. Jesus taught his disciples to remember his love every time they eat bread and drink wine (Matt. 26:26-28). On Sunday mornings, we each take a small piece of bread and drink a small cup of juice as ways to remember Jesus’ promises and love for us.

We use gluten-free bread and juice at our serving stations and we have individually wrapped communion cups at the back of the room for anyone who is immunocompromised or does not want to go to the front of the room.

All are welcome to participate in Communion. You do not need to have a religious affiliation and there is no age requirement. As we take Communion as a church family, take time to explain and answer any questions your children have about Communion.
Scripture
We believe that God communicates with people.  Scripture grounds our understanding of who God is and how God speaks.

We encourage you to read the Bible alone and in groups.
  • Follow along with our lectionary reading plan.
  • Join a small group to learn in community!
  • The Bible Project is an excellent resource for understanding the Bible and offers both study guides and short video series to dig into a specific book or concept.
Sabbath
Sabbath is a day set aside for worship and rest.

Life Events

Child Dedication
Child dedication is an opportunity for our babies and children to be blessed and welcomed into our church family. During every child dedication we commit ourselves as parents, guardians, and as a congregation to accept spiritual responsibility for creating an environment where our children are safe to learn about the love of God.
Baptism
Baptism is a public profession of your faith in Jesus that involves water as a symbol of the forgiveness we receive through the love of Jesus. At Crossroads, people are lowered into the water and raised out of the water as a symbol of the death of our sins and the new life we find in following Jesus.

Baptism is for anyone who has put their trust in Jesus. It is an outward symbol of an inward commitment to Christ. Baptism could be a good next step for you if you have recently made a new or significant decision to follow Jesus or you want to make a public declaration of faith.

If you or your kid would like to be baptized, you can contact crossroads@ccmonline.org or talk to someone at Next Steps. If you sign up to be baptized, we will ask you to write your own profession of faith. This is an explanation of what your faith in Jesus means to you and will be read before you are baptized.

Marriage
We welcome the opportunity to invest in this commitment and your upcoming marriage. It is our desire as a church to equip couples for a marriage that will be a life-long commitment and covenant before God. In order to do that we have set up some specific guidelines listed below.

Contact Pastor Hannah at hannah@ccmonline.org to receive our wedding request form.
Funerals & Memorials
End of life moments are incredibly tender and sacred. Crossroads has a team of dedicated Care Ministers in addition to our Pastoral Team who are trained to support persons enduring a season of grief, loss, and celebration of life.

We use a prepared liturgy for funeral and memorial services and have worked with a variety of funeral homes in the area.

You are the Body of Christ.

Some moments in our lives are so significant we choose to invite the church body to participate alongside us. For such events like child dedication, baptism, marriage vows, and funerals and memorials, we invite community presence, encouragement, and congregational engagement. You are not alone - let us practice and respond to God's good promises together.
