Overflowing Responsibility
Jul 5, 2026 • Scott Loughrige
What is our responsibility when we experience overflow? Drawing from Jesus's parable in Luke 12 about the rich man who built bigger barns, we're challenged to examine our relationship with abundance. The rich man's story serves as a cautionary tale—he spoke only to himself, referenced 'I' six times in three verses, and made plans without consulting God or considering others. His life was entirely self-referenced, devoid of meaningful relationships. Jesus concludes with a stark reminder: 'This is how it will be for whoever stores up things for themselves, but is not rich toward God.' We're reminded that the only things we carry into eternity are our relationships—with God and with others.
